You must renew your real estate license in Florida before the applicable renewal date, which is once every 18 – 24 months from the date your license was issued. Florida Real Estate License Renewal for Brokers

Florida State also requires all brokers and broker associates to continue their real estate license education by taking the mandatory broker license renewal course. This broker post-license renewal course is for brokers and broker associates who are renewing their Florida broker licenses for the first time.

The Florida real estate license renewal requirement for brokers consists of two 30-hour courses, equaling 60 hours of post-licensing education. Florida state sets this broker license renewal education requirement as working as a real estate broker means you must possess a large amount of knowledge relating to the industry. Florida Real Estate License Renewal for Voluntary Inactive Licenses

Licensees in Florida may hold a real estate license but may not wish to practice real estate services at that present time and, in such circumstances, may request the status of their license be voluntarily inactive. If you have asked for your license status to be voluntarily inactive, you are still required to complete all real estate education and application requirements to renew your Florida real estate license. This will maintain the voluntarily inactive status and prevent your license status from changing to involuntarily inactive or being classed as null and void.

What Happens if a Broker Fails to Complete Post-license Renewal Requirements in Florida?

In the event that a broker or broker associate fails to successfully complete the mandatory 60-hour broker license renewal course before their first initial real estate license renewal date, their license will then be categorized as “null and void.” A license that is considered “null and void” means that the individual will be required to start the licensing process again by successfully completing the Broker pre-license course, having their application for their state license approved by the DBPR, and passing the Florida state exam. How Much Does It Cost to Renew Your Real Estate License in Florida?

Real estate licensees are also required to make full payment of their Florida real estate license renewal fees to the DBPR. The costs to renew your real estate license in Florida are as follows;

  • Sales Associates License Renewal Fee: The renewal fee for sales associates in 2024 is $32.
  • Brokers and Broker Associates License Renewal Fee: The renewal fee for brokers and broker associates in 2024 is $36
  • Late Fee: There is a late fee for not meeting the Florida real estate license renewal deadline. The late fee in 2024 is $25.

How Long Can a Real Estate License Be Inactive?

If a license has been classified as involuntary inactive for a maximum of 1 year, the licensee will be required to complete the 14 hour continuing education course to return their license to active status. If the license has been involuntarily inactive for more than one year but less than two years, the agent will be required to take a 28 Hour License Reactivation Course.

Can I Renew My Real Estate License After It Expires in Florida?

If a sales associate fails to meet license renewal requirements before their initial renewal date, they must restart their license education at the very beginning. This means they must take the 63-hour sales associate pre-license course. If a licensed broker fails to meet license renewal requirements before their renewal date, they may downgrade their license to a sales associate’s license. This must be completed within 6 months of their license expiring, or retake the 72-hour pre-license broker course and state exam. When a licensee fails to renew their license during the second renewal period or more, the license will fall into the category of involuntary inactive.
