Choosing the Right New York Real Estate Course
The real estate course you will need will depend on whether you already have your license or plan to take your first step in obtaining your real estate license in N.Y. If you are new to the real estate licensing field and want to get your initial real estate license in N.Y., you need to start at the salesperson level. This means you will need to take the 77 Hour Salesperson Course.
To find out more, check out our guide on How To Get Your New York Real Estate License.
If you already have a license and you want to upgrade to a broker license, then the New York real estate course you will need to complete is the 75-hour Broker Course. These options include audio courses, free practice exams, and valuable math cram and test prep courses to help you pass your state exams.
For more information on upgrading your broker license, please follow the link to our guide on How to Become a Real Estate Broker in New York.
You will need to renew your N.Y. real estate license two years after your license first becomes active. You must complete the Continued Education course requirement to keep your N.Y. real estate license active. If you fail to renew your N.Y. real estate license within 2 years, and your license expires, you will need to retake your state license exam, submit a new salesperson or broker application, and pay the application fee.

Each of our online New York licensing courses is laid out to include reading assignments and unit exams to test your knowledge. All of our real estate courses come with optional audio courses for those who prefer to listen and learn.
At the end of each course, there is a practice exam to help prepare you for the final course exam. All the broker and agent pre-licensing final exams must be proctored in New York. When you log in to your account, you will find all the information on scheduling a proctor and proctoring locations in your online course’s “important resources” section.
Once you have passed your course exam, you will then be able to schedule your state exam. The DOS offers valuable information on scheduling the N.Y. licensing exam, what you will need and what fees you must pay for agent and broker applications on their website. Please follow the link to find out more about state licensing requirements for New York.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are applying for your broker’s license, you must submit ORIGINAL proof of your completion of your N.Y. real estate salesperson course and real estate broker course.
How Long Does My New York Real Estate Course Certificate Last?
Your New York real estate course certificate is valid for 8 years from the date you completed the course. The completion date will be shown on your end-of-course certificate. This applies to the 77 hour salesperson course, the 75 hour broker course and the 30 hour remedial course. If you do not use your certification to apply for your license within eight years, your certificate will expire, and you will need to retake your real estate licensing course again.
Please note that if you have used your end-of-course certificate to obtain a license, it will not expire and can be used to upgrade your New York license.
